ink drawing by Julie McNiel
Food
ink on illustration board.
8 1/2 x 11"
1987

One of the best things about attending art school, for me, was getting to participate in the 'zine community created by illustrator and teacher, Barron Storey. His xerox WATCH magazine provided the challenge to students to interpret visually, different themes every month. This drawing was my contribution to the 'food' issue.

This and other artworks made at the time, were influenced by the zeitgeist: Reaganomics, the AIDS crisis, and the Cold War threat of nuclear annihilation - although the Wall was soon to come down.
